The Oisans area is an open-air playground: on the trails, on the water, in the air and on the rock face
Something for every pace, every level, every season...
The Allemond valley doesn’t stop surprising you. Beyond cycling and skiing, the area around La Douce Montagne offers a remarkable range of experiences from the adrenaline of a via ferrata to a lazy afternoon on the water, from trail running at altitude to soaring above the peaks by paraglider. Whatever pace you choose, the mountains are your playground.
A little further afield...
The surrounding region has plenty to offer beyond the mountain. The Maison du Bouquetin in Rivier d’Allemond tells the fascinating story of the ibex reintroduction in Belledonne, while the nearby hydro museum explores the engineering marvel that literally runs beneath Allemond. The Golf Course at Alpe d’Huez offers 9 holes with one of the most dramatic backdrops of any course in France.
And for a change of scene entirely, Grenoble, a vibrant city with excellent museums, restaurants and shops is less than an hour away. On a bolder day, Turin is within reach for a spontaneous Italian escape.
Mountain Biking
The trails around Allemond were made for mountain bikers. From flowing valley paths to technical descents through the forest, the terrain is as varied as it is beautiful. In summer, several ski lifts open to bikers, giving access to high-altitude singletrack with views that make every climb worthwhile. Kevin and Carmen have a selection of route descriptions available at the hotel to help you plan your rides.
Via Ferrata & Rock Climbing
Few thrills match the sensation of ascending a via ferrata with the Oisans valley spread out below you. The Alpe d’Huez area offers several routes of varying difficulty, from accessible family-friendly circuits to challenging vertical ascents for experienced climbers. Not confident going solo? We can arrange a qualified mountain guide to accompany you.
Trail Running
Just a few steps from the hotel, the asphalt gives way to mountain trails winding through forest, meadow and alpine pasture. Trail running in the Oisans area is a pure experience: no traffic, no noise, just you and the mountain. For those who want a real challenge, the direct trail to Alpe d’Huez through the woods covers 7.5 km of pure vertical reward.
Water Activities - Lac du Verney
At walking distance from the hotel, the Lac du Verney is the valley’s jewel. Its turquoise waters reflect the surrounding peaks and offer a perfect setting for windsurfing, sailing and paddleboating. The public outdoor swimming pool, just across the road from the hotel, is open from July to the end of August, ideal for families or a refreshing dip after a long day on the trails. For those seeking more adventure, kayaking and white water rafting are available at several locations nearby.
Paragliding
Take to the skies above Alpe d’Huez and discover the mountains from a perspective few ever experience. Tandem paragliding flights are available for all levels, no experience needed, just the willingness to let go. From the thermal currents above the resort, the view stretches from the Écrins massif to the Belledonne range. Alpe d’Huez also has a small airport offering helicopter and light aircraft flights for an even more unforgettable perspective on the Alps.
